Before asking for a closer fit, try sitting down in it.
It sounds obvious, but a fitting can turn into five minutes of standing very still in front of a mirror. Then the outfit has to deal with a whole day of reaching, walking, eating and getting in and out of a car.
A few things I would check:
• Can you reach forward without the back pulling?
• Does the waistband still feel comfortable when you sit?
• Can you walk at your normal pace?
• Does the neckline stay where you want it when you move?
Try it with the shoes and underwear you actually plan to wear, too. Those small choices can change how a garment sits.
A little room for movement is part of the fit. I want clothes to feel considered when someone is living in them, as well as when they stop for a photograph.
