A place can stay with you because of one meal.

Hello Doop, I’m Ama Mensah, a food and travel enthusiast in Ghana. I’m here for local flavours, unhurried discoveries, and the people whose work makes a place feel welcoming.

Food is an easy starting point for a bigger conversation. Behind a bowl of waakye, a loaf of freshly baked bread, or a family recipe, there are choices about ingredients, preparation, service, and the experience someone wants to create. I’m interested in those details as much as the finished plate.

This space will be my notebook for exploring Ghana through food, photography, and everyday travel. I want to share useful observations, ask better questions, and learn from cooks, hospitality professionals, storytellers, and other curious travellers.

My approach is simple:

• Start close to home. A familiar neighbourhood can still hold something worth noticing.
• Give credit. The cook, guide, farmer, or small business behind an experience deserves to be part of the story.
• Be practical. Clear directions, realistic budgets, and thoughtful descriptions can be more useful than a perfect photograph.
• Stay curious. Ask what makes a dish meaningful before deciding what to say about it.

For my first conversation here: which Ghanaian dish would you use to introduce someone to your hometown, and what story would you tell alongside it?

I’d love to hear from people building something in food, travel, or hospitality too. What do you wish visitors noticed more?
