The finished outfit gets the photograph. The work behind it deserves a conversation too.
Hi, I’m Zara Bakare, a fashion designer in Nigeria. I’m starting here because I want a place for both: the piece someone might wear and the thinking that makes it worth wearing. A beautiful photograph can introduce my work, but it cannot answer every question about fit, fabric, care, or why I made a particular choice.
What appeals to me about Doop is that sharing work and meeting other professionals sit together. I can use the Feed to explain an idea, explore short video through Watch, and learn from people whose skills complement mine. I’m interested in that mix. A conversation with a photographer, a writer, or someone running a small business could be just as useful as a conversation with another designer.
I’m not arriving with a story about instant growth. This is the beginning, and I want to build a presence I can sustain. My plan is to share small, useful things consistently: why two fabrics behave differently in the same cut, what to consider before ordering a made-to-measure piece, and how a simple alteration can change the way clothing feels.
There will be room for unfinished work as well. A sketch, a question about a colour combination, or a detail that needs another attempt can start a better conversation than a polished image with no context. I want people to understand how I think, rather than only recognise what I make.
For anyone else starting a brand here, my first approach is simple: make the profile clear, choose a name people can remember, and give each post a purpose. Sometimes that purpose is to teach something. Sometimes it is to ask a specific question. I would like someone visiting my profile to quickly understand my work and decide whether it is relevant to them.
I also plan to spend time reading and responding. Building a following should involve getting to know people, not treating every conversation as a chance to drop a sales pitch. Thoughtful replies, honest answers, and credit for other people's ideas are habits I want this page to have from the start.
Eventually, I hope that trust can lead to enquiries and paid work. Before that, I need to make the offer understandable: what I can help with, what a client needs to provide, and what happens next. More followers alone will not answer those questions, and I do not expect joining a platform to answer them for me.
So that is my starting point on Doop: share the craft, be useful, and let the brand grow through the work and the conversations around it. If you make or wear clothing, what would you actually like a designer to explain more often?
